The Americans couldn't have cared any lesser for exercises had it not been the expanding waistlines that caught them unawares. The upward spiral of the waist has given them a rude jolt making them suddenly wake up to the importance of exercise. The effects of the sedentary lifestyle have started reflecting in the form of obesity. Obesity causes harmful diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and even liver failure. So for a healthy living it is important to go for a nutritious and balanced diet and to exercise.

There are no two opinions about including physical fitness in the school curriculum. These classes help the children understand the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle as against their sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. Physical fitness should be a top priority in schools across this country. It's a pity though that many district schools have to curtail or do away with this part of education completely due to budgetary constraints.
