The wholesale price of a new release DVD is what makes a majority of sellers purchase every DVD wholesale list they can. For the most part, they are already using the largest DVD wholesaler there is, but they have convinced themselves that there is a top secret wholesaler out there that will get them an even better price on a new release dvd. I like to think of myself as a pro with selling DVDs, and even I will admit that I was quite shocked by the wholesale price of new releases. When I first began, I noticed there were so many sellers on Ebay that were selling new releases at very low prices. My first reaction was to keep looking for that "secret dvd supplier" that so many dvd sellers are searching for. A NEW RELEASE DVD SELLS AT A PREMIUM PRICE EVEN WITH A WHOLESALER So I did months of research on new release titles. What I found was that these titles are high demand and low profit. I searched the top Ebay DVD sellers and I found that these guys didn't sell new releases. I discovered that they didn't sell new releases because there is simply too much competition and there is NO profit. Here are a couple of reasons why a new release DVD has little or no profit in them: 1. Unless you have a million dollars to invest and can buy a truckload of DVDs you will have to go through one of the three main new release DVD suppliers in the United States. Big retail chains like Wal-Mart and Target purchase their new releases straight from the studio and they get huge discounts for bulk orders, therefore they cut out the middleman. Typically, these big box chains will sell new release dvds at cost and use it as a bait to get customers into their store. Once they get them in, then they feel confident that the consumer will also purchase one or more of the products that their store has to offer. 2. The second reason is new release dvds are not just in demand with the public, they are in demand with the bootleggers as well. A bootlegger can make a new release dvd with the cover art for as little as $1.50 each. These illegal counterfeits usually go on sale before they are even officially released to the public. Bootlegging is illegal, and there is no way that you can compete with a new release DVD that is made for $1.50. HOW DO SOME EBAY SELLERS SELL NEW RELEASES SO CHEAP? 1. A lot of sellers are actually buying new releases at Wal-Mart and reselling them on ebay. This is not my method of choice. I just avoid new releases altogether. But I have ran into several sellers so intent on selling them, this is the method they use. 2. Some of the big sellers may be using them as loss leaders like Wal-mart. If you were selling 10,000 dvds a month you were making money from, you could afford to sell 100 - 200 new releases at cost. 3. In my opinion there are a lot of new release DVDs available on Ebay that are counterfeit. A dead giveaway in determining whether or not a DVD is counterfeit is if the description includes any of the following words or phrases: DVD-5, import, doesn't include the case, shipped in plastic sleeves, shipped from China, Philippines, Malaysia, or some other third world country. SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON NEW RELEASE DVDs My dvd wholesale directory will offer new release DVDs. These are the same suppliers that furnish new releases to DVD rental stores. I have them for those who are dead set on selling new release dvds. Take a little advice though and do a little research and sell the older DVDs that are still big sellers with a lot of profit available on them. Don't waste your time with new releases unless you are already an established seller using them as loss leaders.
