Getting Started in Bass Fishing

By: Mr. Miyagi

Are you new to bass fishing for sport or hobby? Whether you are completely new to all types of fishing or just new to bass fishing, we have some great bass fishing tips to help you get started.

One of the most important things in bass fishing is not just knowing what to do, but also knowing what NOT to do. Many seasoned bass fisherman will tell you it's all about the feeling you get when you're out there on the water, something either feels right, or it doesn't. How can you learn to build this "fisherman's sense" and be able to feel it, too?

First, know your area. Where are you fishing? Who are you fishing with? Have you ever fished here before? What is your background with bass fishing? Are you confident in the location, your equipment and your own abilities? These are all important questions to help you getting started in bass fishing.

Don't make the same mistake that many new bass fishermen tend to make, which is avoiding change. Just because something works good once does not mean that it will work every time. You have to be up for change even if it means switching the type of bait you are using and finding a new favorite fishing spot.

You must always fish with a focus. While fishing is generally considered a relaxing sport, if you want to succeed in bass fishing, then everything you do must be for a purpose and with a focus. You're not just going to head out, bait your hook and wait for the fish to start biting. You have to have a plan and be proactive.

Know your bait and how to present it. Many people just starting out want to know what bait will be the best choice for catching big bass. The important thing to remember is not necessarily a certain type of bait, but instead to learn the right way to present the bait you are using.

Bass tend to be finicky fish. One day they may prefer one type of bait while choosing another on a different day. It's hard to say any specific one that will always be good but when you know how to properly present each type of bait in the waters that you are fishing in, you will be able to get the most out of it, no matter what type you are using.

Learning from others and using techniques they use is a great way to get started. Over time you will develop your own style and techniques that will work best for you. Remember, always stay flexible and open to new suggestions and techniques for the ultimate bass fishing experience.
