One of the most beautiful and scenic national parks in the United States is Yellowstone which has acreage in three different states; Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. It totals 2.2 million acres of land and many species of birds and other wildlife are among its inhabitants. This prime wilderness area has over 1,100 miles of hiking trails to tempt those who love hiking. Even with trails that are simple to reach and well-groomed, and you have park rangers watching over you, you still have to be aware of weather that can change in an instant, rocks that may roll and hurt you, and unpredictable animals. It’s imperative that you respect the “wilderness” and follow the park’s rules. Knowing about the potential risks and sticking to the guidelines, should have you all set to face any situation you might encounter in the park. If you plan to go on one of the marvelous day hikes so popular in Yellowstone, you will have a myriad of trail choices, not to mention an excellent day. Be sure to check in with the rangers for a map and any other available information. They will talk to you about bears, storms that can occur in an instant, and fires. They will remind you to pack your first aid kit, sunscreen, raincoat, and bug spray. For Yellowstone Park, you do not need a permit for hiking although some parks do have this requirement. As you meander among the trails, you will find yourself going into remote sections of the park. Some of the trails are smooth and easy, offering gentle terrain. However, you will also come across trails that require hiking skill and endurance. Therefore, always check the trail conditions before starting out and choose trails that match your hiking ability. Don’t forget to include your camera. You’ll see so much beauty that you won’t want to return home without lots of memorable pictures. The landscape is breathtaking and you’ll come across valleys, wildflowers, shallow passes, and a variety of wildlife. Pictures are a must to enhance your great memories of hiking in Yellowstone Park.
