Your wedding day is clearly a very special day in anybody's life, however it can also be one of the most expensive. For any bride perhaps the most important thing on the shopping list will be her bridal gown and with a growing number of good quality but fairly cheap wedding dresses on the market nowadays it is possible to have the dress of your dreams without spending an arm and a leg. For a lot of people a wedding dress ought to be a traditional full length white gown, symbolizing the brides pure heart and innocence, complete with veil and train originally popularized by Queen Victoria when she broke away from the royal custom of getting married in silver and selected a white gown for her marriage to Prince Albert. This started a craze which has continued until today with a lot of brides choosing white or a variation of white like cream, eggshell or ivory. Nowadays however we see two major shifts taking place when it comes to weddings. The first is a return to those pre-Victorian days when women married in simpler dresses of just about any color that took their fancy, apart from black which was traditionally associated with mourning and red which was reserved for 'ladies of the night'. This also means generally abandoning the veil, which is understood to symbolize virginity, in addition to the train which is a trapping of royal weddings and conjures up a picture of the peacock, which was previously viewed as a royal bird. The second is a move away from the church wedding towards weddings taking place in a wide range of quite diverse venues, including the increasingly popular beach wedding. As a consequence not only do brides today have a far broader choice of color for their bridal dress but, most importantly, dispensing with the veil and train and the requirement for a full length dress means that brides can pick from a huge range of far simpler bridal dresses. For those of us who need to key a close eye on costs this is excellent news as informal bridal dresses are also much cheaper than the full traditional white wedding outfit. Another important point here is that the move away from the full white wedding gown also means that it is no longer necessary to purchase your dress from a specialist bridal outfitter who, not surprisingly, will charge a premium just for the service that is provided or for the name or brand that you are buying. It is a bit like a pair of training shoes you can purchase two almost identical pairs of shoes and pay nine times more for one pair simply because of its brand name. There has certainly never been a better time to shop for a bridal gown and the choice available to you nowadays in terms of style, color and supplier is huge. It is now relatively easy to find reasonably cheap wedding dresses and still look like a million dollars in your dream dress.
