Profitability - to say the least, this is a very important aspect of business. Business owners strive to ensure profitability by trying to achieve certain levels of satisfaction among customers and to achieve end business goals. To achieve these goals seamlessly, businesses use processes to ensure that the organization produces quality products and services within a certain level of productivity. The better and more effective the processes used, the more chances that the business will achieve its end business goals. However, the organization should also be ready to adjust to the changing business environment. That is why it is important for an organization to have good business improvement strategies. Does Business Process Improvement apply only to existing processes? To successfully implement improvements in business processes, there should be a way to measure data, especially the difference between results from an old business process versus a revised one. This is only possible for existing processes. A business process improvement activity invariably begins with process mapping where one studies the different aspects of the business process to see where improvement measures can be put into action. What benefits do we get from a Business Process Improvement? To understand this, let us take an example. Company A is a manufacturing company which produces consumer goods for use by its customers. It produces 1000 units of a particular product on a daily basis whereas the demand has continually been 2000 units a day. The effective method that the company should employ is to reengineer their processes by business process improvement techniques to ensure that the demand of 2000 units a day is met. Business Process Improvement sounds easy, is it really easy to implement? Yes, it is easy to implement, particularly if there is a deep understanding of the process. However, one should realize that there should be an attitude that is not resistant to change. For professionals who are involved in a Business Process Improvement activity, they should be able to take employees who will be directly affected into their confidence and to gain their support even before the improvements are implemented. This is important to success as you may meet with some resistance, particularly when a process needs to be completely overhauled. Business Process Improvement uses techniques like Kaizen, Six Sigma and Total Quality Management to help professionals achieve optimal results in their business processes. It is important to remember that Business Process Improvement will work only with the organization working as a team. Some excellent Business Process Improvement measures have met their doom because the teams failed to work together for its success.
